David C. Jonies, Associate Director of Music and Organist at Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago, will be presenting an organ recital at Holy Rosary Church on Sunday, August 3, 2014 at 7:00 pm.
At Holy Name, David plays the Cathedral’s 4-manual Flentrop organ, and also directs the renowned Holy Name Cathedral Summer Organ Series.
A native of Germany, he studied at the Hochschule für Musik Würzburg and the Royal Academy of Music in London and graduated with degrees in organ and church music. While in London, he also held positions at the Chapel Royal at Hampton Court Palace, and at Westminster Cathedral. David was gold medalist at the Landau International Organ Competition in 1999, and recipient of the Alec Robertson Scholarship in 2003. He was a featured recitalist for NPM and OHS National Conventions and has performed recitals at Westminster Abbey, the London Handel Festival, the Bach Festival of Pusan (South Korea), the Spoleto Festival in Charleston, the Pine Mountain Music Festival in Northern Michigan and the world’s largest organ at Passau Cathedral. Upcoming engagements include and a concert tour to Germany in fall, and recitals at St. Paul’s Cathedral in Pittsburgh and Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris next year.
